About Me

I am a French Immersion Kindergarten teacher with Regina Catholic Schools but I have also taught Grade 1 and Grade 2 (also in French Immersion). I am new to the blogging scene and have set this blog up as a requirement for EC&I 831 Social Media & Open Education. This is my fourth class in my Masters program towards a Master in Curriculum and Instruction. I am excited for this course but a little nervous as I have never used any Social Media in the past.

A little more about me. I am the mother of three young boys (almost 6, almost 4, and 20 months old) and expecting me fourth child in early November. My wonderful husband is also a teacher but he prefers middle years students. This way I figure we have our bases covered when it comes to helping our children with homework until they are in high school. I guess after that they are on their own. I have been teaching since 2004 and can’t imagine wanting to do anything else.

My experience with technology is quite limited. I had taken a course during my undergrad degree but that seems like years ago.  I am quite comfortable with word processors but the whole idea of blogs and twitter are new to me.  I am looking forward to discovering these new tools.  When it comes to expectation for EC&I 831, I came into the class with a very open mind.  I am hoping to discover different tools that I will be able to use in my classroom to help my students, as well as different tools that I will be able to use in order to assist the parents of my students.

Hi Honni, I’m a non-credit participant from the EC&I 831 course. I started to look at social media tools, but then realized there is ‘deep’ philosophy behind their use. Technological skills is not everything… still trying to grasp the ‘post-linguistic representation’ Stephen Downs describe as performance…
